What our students say

Here is a list of testimonials from our students

Colette Hoepli-Steffan - Successful Interior Design

Student Image

Since graduating with the Regent Academy, I have set up a very successful interior design business in London called Steffan Interiors. My recent projects include houses in St. Tropez, Switzerland and Germany, and I’ve even appeared in Your Home magazine.

I would recommend the Regent Academy to anyone. The tutors were so helpful, very thorough and extremely nice every time I called. They got me through this course and I graduated with flying colours. Ultimately it was all about the support I was given.

Mike Lavender - Creative Drawing and Painting

Since completing the Creative Drawing and Painting course with the Regent Academy things have gone from strength to strength for me. I have set up the “Art Associates”, a forum where I am able to showcase and sell my paintings. The “Art Associates” are doing so well that we were recently sponsored by Citibank to hold an exhibition in Dortmund, Germany.

The course was just brilliant. My tutor was fantastic and her comments were so helpful. The positive reactions I got were overwhelming and a lot of it’s down to her as her tips and advice were so invaluable.

Rosina Cassam - Master Soft Furnishings

I successfully completed Regent Academy’s Master Soft Furnishings course from Mauritius. I have moved to London and am launching my own business called Atelier Le Flamboyant - specialising in window design. With the knowledge and skills I gained from the course and a greater understanding of the history of soft furnishings I feel very confident about my new venture.

Julie Bonnar - Successful Interior Design

It took me over three years to do the Successful Interior Design course because I fitted it in around my two young children. The ability to do this was what attracted me to the correspondence way of learning.

I’ve always been interested in the way I present my home, and I also want to do something with interior design as a career. Initially, once I’d completed the course, I was thinking of doing ‘hands on’ interior design. However, as I am Assistant Editor for Sewing World, I’ve decided instead to combine my publishing experience with my interior design skills and get into magazine writing. My editor has agreed for me to produce a series of interior design features for the magazine on colour, style themes and soft furnishings. I’m really enjoying it, so I hope to start writing soon for some of the home interest magazines too.

Peter Sharpe - Antiques

Student Image

I did the Understanding Antiques course two years ago, and have just graduated from the Style in Antiques course. I enjoyed both equally, found them very informative, and I particularly enjoyed carrying out the research. I’ve enrolled on Buying and Selling Antiques and will be starting that course soon. I’m really into car boot sales - I find a bargain now and again - and did Bootsale Challenge on TV three years ago. Eventually I’d like to buy and sell more antiques, but mainly for enjoyment rather than profit.

Annie Bufton - Complete Writing

The Association of Freelance Journalists will be recommending your Complete Writing course to its members in the next newsletter. During my career I have had to review many things including home study courses, but I have to say that yours are the only ones I have felt a personal desire to do!

Pamela Emerson - Understanding Art and its History

Student Image

I enjoyed Understanding Art and its History so much that I couldn’t stop reading around the subject and it eventually took me three years to finish, which apparently is considerably longer than usual! I also made a special trip from Northern Ireland to London’s National Gallery to see the actual paintings that form a large part of the course.

I’ve recently started a Masters degree in cultural heritage and museum studies at the University of Ulster in Belfast. Understanding Art and its History gave me a relevant art background, which I wouldn’t have had otherwise, and it really helped me to get onto the course. I did my first degree in education many years ago, and my Regent Academy Diploma and course work also proved that I could still study and do research.

Toni Mannell - Successful Interior Design

Student Image

I first came across Regent Academy in a magazine and decided to investigate into their Interior Design course, which seemed very professional. I’ve always had an interest in this area and with my new job in Yacht interior design I knew I could use these skills effectively to help me in my job.

What I loved about the course was that I could do it at my own pace - do a module when I felt like it and come back to another when I wanted. The course tutors were also very positive, helpful and always constructive.

I am now very much enjoying my job and am now helping select colour schemes and fabrics for yachts from all around the world.

April Uprichard - Creative Drawing and Painting

I had a car accident a couple of years ago that really shook me up. Then I enrolled on Creative Drawing and Painting and it really took my mind off it. The course gave me a terrific buzz, and it has changed the whole way I see the world and my way of thinking.

I’ve just got a new job working with vulnerable young people and I’ve been asked to run art workshops for them, teaching them to draw and paint. I was always told at school that I was hopeless at art and I would never have been able to consider running these workshops if I hadn’t done Creative Drawing and Painting.

Lin Achard - Fashion Design & Dressmaking courses

Student Image

Lin Achard, from Little Bytham in Lincolnshire had always been interested in dress making, having done an A Level in textiles. Having done a Regent Academy course in Interior Design some years ago, she decided to take up another course and started the Fashion Design & Dressmaking Course 1 for personal satisfaction.

"The course was wonderful! I couldn't wait to get my assignments back to see what marks I got. The tutors were so helpful and always came to the rescue if I got into difficulties and they were very reassuring."

Lin has taken her skills to new heights. Living close by to a local Shakespeare Company, Lin had always wanted to get involved with the costumes but didn't really have the confidence to volunteer. Now that she has completed the Regent Academy course, she plucked up the courage to offer her services and now volunteers 3 afternoons a week making historical costumes for the 2 plays a year.

"It's been wonderful to do the Regent courses and am already in the process of starting Fashion Design & Dressmaking Course 2!"

Sara Cutress - Soft Furnishings

I have just completed the City & Guilds Soft Furnishings course. I couldn’t imagine how much fun a correspondence course could be - it was colourful, interactive and energizing. I am a mature student, and the course taught me how to learn.

Many thanks for a truly enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Joanne Mysko - Successful Interior Design

I have always had an interest in interior design and spent a good deal of time helping ex-pat friends with room schemes for their homes when I lived in Nigeria and Italy. I enrolled on the Successful Interior Design course to consolidate the experience I had already gained and I loved every minute of it. I took my time so I could really enjoy it.

The course has been invaluable for my new business venture, which is to set up a ‘house doctor’ business from home. I’m about to move from Yorkshire to Norwich, where I grew up, buy a little property locally to do up and let out, and then I shall set up my business. I plan to approach local estate agents who will be able to offer my services to prospective vendors, particularly those having difficulty selling their houses. Once in touch, I will offer advice to clients and put this into practice with the help of a team of reputable trades people.

Claire Donaldson - Eight different courses

I have enrolled on eight Regent Academy courses and thoroughly enjoyed them. I found that distance learning suited me well as I could work on my projects whenever and wherever I wanted and there was always a tutor available to speak to. Although I am retired, as a result of the Successful Interior Design course I have become involved in interior design work for a very good charity called "Habitat for Humanity", which has been fantastic.

From the new knowledge the other courses have given me, I have expanded my interests immensely - for instance, thanks to the Understanding Art & its History course, I now have so much enjoyment from visiting galleries and museums, and find them fascinating now that I understand so much more.

Emmeline Daubney - Professional Interior Design

Originally from Bolton in Lancashire, Emmeline Daubney relocated to Spain where she found an exciting job in property sales and marketing. Due to her job, she was moving home as much as twice a year. She found it quite exciting as she would use her creativity to change the decor and furnishings of each property she moved into, turning it into a comfortable and stylish home.

When she met her partner, he suggested she make a career out of her hobby, by designing properties as a career. After research on the Internet and talking to friends Emmeline decided that Regent Academy's home-study course would not only give her the opportunity to continue with her current job but also provide her with a recognised qualification in the U.K.

Emmeline states: 'I have enjoyed this course immensely and have been pleasantly surprised by the thorough detail. I have learnt, in depth, all aspects of interior design'. Emmeline comments further: 'I am delighted that the Regent Academy has chosen a piece of my work to feature in their newsletter, it has given me great confidence and encouragement and proves that I am on the right path to fulfilling my dream of eventually having my own interior design company and turning my skills into cash'.

Emmeline intends to market her services in the commercial sector working together with her partner and her father whom are both successful property developers.
